History

Any visitor to Little Tokyo (and frequent visitors as well) should stop in at Fugetsudo Confectionary store located at 315 E. First Street in downtown Los Angeles.

The business started operations in the days when Little Tokyo was forming its identity at the turn of the 20th century as the largest Japanese American enclave in the continental United States.  The store occupies the same space since 1930 and a step inside is a step back in time when soda fountains were in vogue and the rice cracker and mochi rice dumplings are Japanese staples that go back hundreds of years.

Fugetsudo not only sells traditional Japanese sweets but also Japanese and American hybrids using chocolate and strawberry flavors and even peanut butter!
